Get out and about! There is so much to do in the area surrounding Scarborough. Here are seven attractions that we think are really worth visiting during your trip to the North Yorkshire Coast.

Flamingo Land Theme Park & Zoo

Scarborough’s famous adventure park offers over 100 rides and attractions. They have a large zoo, housing over 140 species of reptiles, mammals and birds, including giraffes, big cats and rhinos, monkeys. It boasts the country’s only motorbike launch rollercoaster, Velocity.

All aboard! Enjoy the beautiful views from a carriage of one of the steam trains, or heritage diesel trains that run on this line. The eighteen-mile journey will introduce you to the North York Moors, and end up at the delightful seaside town of Whitby.

Whitby  – The Abbey

Dominating the view in Whitby, the traditional maritime town just XXX miles from Scarborough is Whitby Abbey, recently voted Britain’s most romantic ruin. Dating back to the 13th Century, a visit here is a must, before you descend the 199 steps back into the old town, with its cobbled streets and little shops. Enjoy the blue flag beaches in Whitby, which are some of the best along the North York coast.

Robin Hood Bay

Renowned for its beautiful sandy beaches, wonderful rock pools, and smuggling history, Robin Hood Bay is what childhood memories are made of. It is a huge local attraction, which sees return visitors year after year. There is plenty to enjoy in the town itself too, with its winding cobbled streets and many little shops. By staying in Scarborough, you have it virtually on the doorstep.


This beautiful Edwardian seaside resort is perfect for those looking for a peaceful, restful day out on the Yorkshire Coast. There is a 5 mile stretch of golden beach, which is one of the cleanest anywhere in Britain, and still has donkey rides on offer.

Tocketts Watermill

This working watermill has been here in one form or another, since the 13th Century. Watch the majestic 18ft waterwheel as it turns, and learn all about the milling process. Children can help with hoisting grain sacks. Tocketts Mill also has a first class restaurant on site.
